we have a heat tolerant lettuce trial going on here at SCG, we’re narrowing down the varieties we grow to our top 5 performers in the summer months for inland southern california.
we created a microclimate that helps keep the 20+ lettuce varieties comfortable. seeds were sown 5/24, this update was filmed 7/26. we have a shade cloth positioned for protection from the harsh uv rays, and they get an irrigation spray twice a day. being inland Southern California we have had several days over 100 degrees with average temp in the upper 90’s. as you can see in the video there are some Great performers that have formed beautiful heads of lettuce and have not bolted yet, we’ll see which have best bolt resistance and best flavor.. stay tuned🥬
